I love to draw fashion inspiration from my favorite celebrities, their bold looks, inventive outfit pairings, and seemingly endless confidence as well as access to top designers make them better than pinterest. When flipping through magazines and scrolling down my instagram feed I often fall in love with unique pieces that celebrities wear for appearances, events, and on-the-go looks. However, once I track down these pieces I am often disappointed at how expensive they are. While a splurge piece here and there may be justified, these ultra-expensive looks are not realistic in bulk. So instead I look for less expensive alternatives that capture the vibe and style of the celebrity look I love. You would be surprised just how easy it is to copy celebrity style for less. Below I have compiled three fun and drastically different looks from Kendall Jenner, Yara Shahidi, and Rosie Huntington Whiteley and sourced some less expensive versions of the statement pieces that make up their outfits.
Kendall Jenner was spotted leaving a friends London Hampstead house party in December wearing this show stopping leather jacket (£1925), funky top (£260), and boyfriend jeans (£208). While her outfit was certainly envy inducing it’s a little outside the prince range of your average university student. Shop this look for less with this jacket, top, and jeans. While it may be less expensive it is equally as stylish!
On her recent Jimmy Fallon appearance Yara Shahidi rocked a merino wool sweater (£536), satin wide leg pants (£768), and a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps (£525). If you are as in love with this look as you are with savings, than check out this way more affordable sweater and pants from boohoo and these heels from Next that look almost identical. Don’t be afraid to put your own spin on a classic celebrity look.
Rosie Huntington Whiteley was spotted out and about in New York City wearing this chic St Laurent jacket (now on sale for a mere £968 ,down from £3,338) Tom ford leather pants (£1,845), and stylish pumps. I love this bold look and wanted to immediately run out and buy myself a safari-inspired ensemble. Unfortunately however, I don’t have a spare thousand pounds lying around. Luckily, there is plenty of more affordable options out there like this super cute jacket, comfy pants, and investment-worthy pumps.
While celebrities have some of the most enviable closets in the world you don’t need to have lots of money to emulate their style. My top tips for dressing like a celebrity for less are simple.
1) Don’t be strict. You probably will not find the same exact piece anywhere, after all there is a reason why celebrities are willing to spend thousands of pounds on a coat, dress, or pair of heels. But, you can find similar looks that have the same effect.
2) Don’t be afraid to put your own spin on it. You might love the coat and top that your favorite celebrity is wearing but think that it would look cuter with jeans instead of a skirt, or sandals instead of boots. Don’t be afraid to mix it up and let your own sense of style shine through.
3) Shop the deals. Some of the slightly more affordable brands favoured by celebrities like Alice + Olivia or Rag & Bone have massive year end sales that can make that coveted coat, cashmere scarf, or crewneck sweater within reach.
