A Walk in My Wardrobe: Meet the CC Photographers

With this year’s committee now chosen and the CC fashion coverage well underway, we thought it time to properly introduce the girls behind our photography. As the ones responsible for capturing the eclectic style of St. Andrews students, we want to celebrate our own, giving you an insight into their wardrobes, personal style and fashion advice. Keep reading to find out what they said!

In true red carpet style, we asked our photographers the first question on the mind of every fashion interviewer: who are you currently wearing? *cue the camera flash*

Dressed for a day of classes, Tanya is wearing:

Chelsea Boots – random shop

Grey Jeans – Banana Republic

Victorian-style Shirt – Zara

Scarf – vintage (pinched from her mum’s wardrobe)

Leather Biker Jacket – All Saints

Sunglasses – Ray-Ban

How would you describe your style in 3 words?

‘Messy but sleek’

What is your ultimate wardrobe staple and why?

‘It would have to be a biker jacket; you can be feminine, sexy, and rock and roll at the same time.’

Coat (not photographed) – New York & Company

Camel Jeans – H&M

Boots – Mod Cloth

Peter Pan Collar Shirt – Forever 21

Ring – St. Andrews Affordable Vintage Fair

What is your favourite latest fashion purchase?

‘I bought this tiny embroidered purse from the vintage fair for £12. It’s black with gold embroidered detailing and subtle rhinestones; it’s very art deco and classic!’

What is your favourite piece to wear and why?

‘A classic red lip because you can pair it with a minimal outfit and still make an impact. I normally wear all black or go for neutral tones and let the lip be the focal point.’

Coat (not photographed) – Lands’ End

Bodysuit – Boohoo

Boots – New Look

Bag – Kate Spade

Denim Skirt – Thrifted in USA

Where do you take your style inspiration from?

‘Recently I’ve been loving vintage; I like finding the most unique pieces I can and incorporating them with everyday items. I think that suits my style the most… a little classic, comfortable and girly’

What trend for Autumn/Fall are you most excited for?

‘VELVET!’

Jacket – Thrifted

Jeans – Gap

Shirt – Thrifted

White Loafers – Nordstrom

Watch – Tiffany & Co.

Necklace – Tiffany & Co.

Scarf – Oxfam

What is your favourite latest fashion purchase?

‘I picked up this stunning beige trench coat from a thrift store for $15! It gets so many compliments and can dress up any outfit’

What is your biggest fashion pet peeve or style faux pas?

‘I would probably say solid colour outfits, like really dated double denim or the velour Juicy Couture tracksuits; some people can really pull it off, but I personally wouldn’t go for it!’

Marcella Denby

Dress – Zara

Boots – Stuart Weitzman

Choker – Urban Outfitters

Ring – Vintage from Greece

Watch – Matthew M Henderson Fine Jewellers in St. Andrews

Sunglasses – Thrifted in Dallas

Out of everything you are wearing, what is your favourite piece and why?

‘Definitely my ring, I wear it everyday because it reminds me of Greece where I bought it on holiday. Greece is my favourite place to visit! I also think the meaning of the snake is really cool because it symbolises medicine, and I’m a studying biology myself.’

If your wardrobe caught on fire (god forbid), which item would you rescue?

‘I would save my mum’s denim jacket from the 80s; it’s Ralph Lauren and just a really classic piece that you can pair with most outfits.’

Tash Waddell

Culottes – Zara

Trainers – Adidas Superstar (super basic)

Top – H&M

Coat – Topshop (last season)

Necklace – H&M

What trend for Autumn/Fall are you most excited for?

‘Patches and embroidery on denim for sure – I love the idea of customized denim paired with some structured, heeled boots’

What is your biggest fashion pet peeve or style faux pas?

‘I’m personally not a fan of pairing a skater skirt with a long top; if you can only see an inch of skirt under the top I don’t think it gives you any shape.’

Kylie Andrews

Old Riding Boots – Nordstrom

Jeans – Urban Outfitters

Off-the-Shoulder Top – Urban Outfitters

Cardigan – Shop in Switzerland

Necklace – Tiffany & Co.

What piece do you find yourself reaching for season after season? Why?

‘My ripped jeans are super comfy and are suitable for anything; I can even wear them on planes.’

Can you describe your style in 3 words?

‘Neutrally toned, unfussed, and comfortable’

Paloma Ley

Jacket – Topshop

Dress – Zara

Boots – New Look

Bag – Mango

Jewellery – A vintage piece from my mum’s jewellery box

What is your ultimate wardrobe staple and why?

‘A really good pair of shoes… Honestly shoes make up about 90% of my wardrobe! What you put on your feet can make or break an outfit, so chose wisely when buying them’

If your wardrobe caught on fire (god forbid), which item would you rescue?

‘I have this really cool pair of pin-striped Topshop trousers that I’d want to save. They’re so comfy and make it look like you’ve made an effort when you really haven’t’

Alex Spencer

Bomber Jacket – A Japanese company from  a Century 21 Store in NYC

Jeans – ‘Redone’ (they take vintage Levi’s and rework them)

Mohair Sweater – Free People

Canvas Tote – Tampico

Camisole – Swiss Lingerie Label (makes cleavage classy)

Out of everything you are wearing, what is your favourite piece and how else would you style it?

‘My jeans: I’d probably style them with a vintage (faux) fur jacket and this vintage Chanel camisole that I picked up for $30. I would tell you where, but it’s my best kept secret shopping spot! For shoes, I’d go for some black kitten heels or velvet loafers.’

What piece do you find yourself reaching for season after season, and why?

‘It would have to be my vintage Woolrich black Peacoat from the 70s. It’s so durable and classic; I don’t think it will ever go out of style. Plus it goes with almost anything, which is always a bonus.’
